Redemption Reggae Artistes Entrusted With Task of Redeeming A Nation
- May 14, 2014 - Organisers of this month’s massive reggae concert in Trinidad and Tobago, “Redemption”, set to be held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium Training Grounds are adamant that music has the power to heal. So certain are they of this that they’ve entrusted the lyrical and melodic prowess of four of reggae music’s most gifted artistes, with the task of redeeming a nation.

Duane Stephenson has a message to deliver. Like many of Trinidad and Tobago’s young people, this ‘rootsy’ musical mind knows the rigors of life, having been born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica where he dwells even today.  Stephenson’s ‘From August Town’ single and the album of the same name saw him remain true to himself, using heartfelt lyrics, sincere vocals, insightful commentaries and deeply rooted spirituality to capture and captivate audiences across Jamaica, the Caribbean, Europe and the United States. That was 2008. Fast-forward to 2014 and the Caribbean reggae crooner remains true to his musical purpose. On May 31st, many will feel his power. Organisers of the event are excited to bring such a thought-provoking artiste to local shores. They say he is just what is needed.

Security and the comfort of patrons are high on the list of priorities, as coordinators arduously get things ready for what they know will be the biggest outpouring of music lovers, for the year. Beres Hammond, Gyptian, Sanchez and Duane Stephenson are names that invoke a sense of excitement and with that understanding, organisers are ready to welcome patrons from near and far. “We feel this is a concert that will appeal to a wide demographic of people, from varying social backgrounds. All we want is for the people of Trinidad and Tobago to come out and celebrate life, fall in love with themselves, their families, their loved ones and with our country, again. We have to bring back the love,” one organizer emphasized.

T&T reggae hit maker, Jamelody is also on the cast of celebrated artistes to hit the stage at Redemption later this month. Recently, Jamelody released a single he called, ‘Gun,’- a title that he knew would hit hard, one that would spark conversation. The song in itself was however a play on words, as the Carenage native spoke of the need to choose positive over negative.

On show night, patrons are being guaranteed their money’s worth. VIP patrons will be offered an up close and personal experience along with complimentary finger food. Tickets have already been restocked at advertised outlets, several times- a sign that the show will be a big one. Organisers are however warning that patrons should avoid last minute ticket purchases, encouraging the purchase of tickets now, to avoid increased prices.

Social media is abuzz with talk of “Redemption The Concert.” Seems like everyone’s going, many noting that Beres Hammond is truly a mesmerizing performer. On May 31st, the experience will be unforgettable, say organisers- a sentiment they relay with nothing short of conviction.
