Bacchanal Jamaica launches "FUTURE SHOCK" Carnival season and new Mas Camp
Bacchanal Jamaica season off to a great start

(Kingston, Jamaica – February 11, 2012) – The Blue Mountain Suite of the Knutsford Court Hotel was transformed into soca central on Friday February 10, 2012 with Bacchanal Jamaica’s official carnival launch and fete for media, sponsors and other socaphiles and well-wishers. Under the theme ‘Future Shock’, the over 300 guests were given a taste of the galactic feel of the season, enhanced by psychedelic laser lights and sparkling décor, designed to transport attendees into a space and time dominated only by soca.

Host for the evening, Sara Lawrence, introduced patrons to the nine costumes available for this year’s road march. Senior Sponsorship Manager for Digicel Jamaica, Shelly-Ann Curran, opened the segment with an introductory greeting as one of the season’s title sponsors, wearing afitted silver dress and head piece reminiscent of a space queen. Ms. Curran then escorted Digicel’s Brand Ambassador Yendi Phillips to the stage in Digicel’s sponsored white and silver, princess-style costume, Robotika. Other costume offerings included Smirnoff’s Avatar, Bacchanal Babes’ Stardust from Ammar’s, Pure Country’s Supernova, Orion’s Belt and Nebula, Galactika by Appleton, The Jamaica Observer’s Encleadus, and Saturn’s Ring by FAME 95 FM. The new State Minister in the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment, Damion Crawford, was also present at the event and was well-received by all in attendance. The evening’s proceedings then shifted smoothly into a true soca fete with the newest soca hits and favourites from the 2011 season spun by DJ Smoke of Renaissance Disco.

“This season has definitely gotten off to a great start and the support tonight has definitely been encouraging,” says Renee Hartley, PR Officer for Bacchanal Jamaica 2012. “This year, we’ll have special surprises to ensure that at every event, our patrons truly feel like they’re in another world, celebrating the best of soca and bacchanal.”

The 2012 Bacchanal Season will feature its regular Friday night fetes beginning February 24 with Socacise starting on February 27, both at the new Mas Camp located at Stadium North. Other season staples include Beach Jouvert and Bacchanal Jouvert, with the season culminating on April 15 with the highly-anticipated Road March.
